M. Sawyer's Rating:
This GPS device is very fast in acquiring a location fix. It is feature rich and has the same user interface as previous Garmin products. The only small complaint is that the device did not come with a travel sleeve.
D. Viti's Rating:
If you’ve looked at the 40+ Garmin models and other models and find yourself confused. There is plenty of company out there for you. If you’re looking for a quality GPS device for $250 or below, this is your model.
It does everything you’d want from a GPS and does it well. Display is fast, maps are accurate and it’s able to keep up with changing directions quite well.
If you are getting this for the traffic information, bear in mind that it only works around major highways (Navteq) and is only as useful as your local traffic report. 1 time it did navigate me around a jam without me even knowing there was a jam, but I do not rely on that.

This is the first GPS device I’ve owned. I’m underwhelmed. If it functioned the way it should I’d be giggling with technical glee. I’m not. It doesn’t. The navigational part works without to many hiccups but that’s where the semi glee ends. The device occasionally goes into Marcel Marceau mode and I am forced to stare at old school video game directional maps. When I link my Iphone to the bluetoth it will sometimes lock up the screen for 5 minutes or more while “connecting to the bluetooth device” although it has already paired. I can’t get my iphone to play my voice mails over the device either. That could be an iphone issue. I’ve not had a chance to update the unit if in fact updates would cure the problems.
T. Dog's Rating:
Prior to buying this, I just used the navigation feature on my Cell Phone which worked ok, but I decided to go with a dedicated GPS unit. This unit works great and it is very easy and intuitive to use. I also purchased the Garmin Case Sleeve to store it in, and the Arkon Vent Mount which I am also very happy with.
I probably could have went with the 255W because I doubt I will ever use the Bluetooth, but I thought the traffic feature would be nice to have. Actually though, I have never driven in an area yet that traffic was broadcast.
If you don’t care about Bluetooth or Traffic, save yourself a little money and go with the 255W.
The one issue I had was that I could not take advantage of the free map update, even though I had registered the unit with Garmin and I was within the 60 days. The Garmin website said that there was a new map available, but it kept trying to charge me for it.
After a couple calls to Garmin’s customer service, they fixed it so that I could download the update for free. Apparently they have been having issues with this.
Other than that though, I really like this unit and would recommend it to everyone.
A. Dearry's Rating:
Highly recommended. In all honesty, this is my first auto GPS. I studied all the options on Amazon and other sites before purchasing this unit. I initially thought I’d need to spend more $ to have the all “bells and whistles” I thought I might need or desire. After looking at Costco and other places in addn to Amazon, Garmin is the only way to go for the best GPS. Even within the Garmin GPS offerings, there are a multitude of complexities. If you’re looking for the best value in direction and traffic information, I cannot recommend this unit highly enough. I’ve had this 3 months now and I do a lot of travel, both locally and nationally around the US. I have yet to find a fault. It consistently delivers correct directions and never fails to warn of adverse traffic. I’m far from an expert at all the intricacies of GPS devices, but if you want a GPS that delivers the best value for the cost, the 265WT is currently your best choice.
